The successful roll out of G3 PLC smart meters at EVN in Austria and KSFs for smart meter projects

With the integration of battery-powered devices, the G3-Hybrid PLC+RF communication standard now enables multi-utility metering over one single network.
The battery-powered leaf node extension of the G3-Hybrid specification allows the integration of battery-powered devices such as gas, water and heat meters as well as other devices into the hybrid network.
Vattenfall, a major European energy company, presents a unique connected lighting system for municipalities based on G3-PLC powerline communication.
Dynamic Grid Control is a unique technology for connected lighting. Control systems are installed in each lighting pole and each pole is assigned a distinctive IP address. The lighting can be controlled at both group and individual level and light intensity can be managed on individual lighting poles. Optimised lighting schedules can be set for different types of areas such as city centres, industrial areas, and parks.
Experts from Renesas and STMicroelectronics present all RF frequency bands supported by the latest release and explain the regulatory requirements in the different regions around the world. The following mechanisms introduced to address regulatory requirements are explained: – Adaptive power control (APC) – Duty-cycle handling – Frequency Hopping.
Two utility members of the G3-Alliance, Enedis (France) and EVN (Austria), share experiences of how they successfully realised meter interoperability and make recommendations for other utilities. Olivier Genest from Trialog presents the approach to realise interoperability.

G3-Alliance webinar about regulatory regime and G3-PLC deployments in FCC band in Europe. Due to its long range and high performance, many utilities in Europe have already deployed G3-PLC systems operating in the frequency range between 150 kHz up to 500 kHz, i.e. FCC band.
